Victim. Survivor. Advocate.
Lorena Bobbitt made tabloid headlines when, after enduring years of abuse by her husband, she cut off his penis with a knife in 1993. Now a powerful crusader for women’s rights, she tells her story for the first time—to set the record straight, and to provide hope and help to victims of domestic violence everywhere.
From her first encounter with the charming John Bobbitt to their chaotic marriage and beyond, I Was Lorena Bobbitt chronicles—in her own words—how Lorena’s American dream became a nightmare at the hands of her increasingly violent husband, a justice system that ignored her pleas for help, and the media which turned her case into a national punchline. Nearly three decades later, Lorena takes centre stage to tell the story from her point of view.
The movie stars Dani Montalvo (Dispatches from Elsewhere) and Luke Humphrey (Tiny Pretty Things) as the controversial couple. Danishka Esterhazy directs from a script written by Barbara Nance.
